Strategic planning, EOS Implementation and leadership coaching, delivered by a Practitioner-Scholar who has led the rooms you’re leading now — and studied why what worked, worked.
The boardroom where nine-figure decisions got made. The state legislature where two bills became law. The community he guided through a massacre, a pandemic, and the hardest decisions leadership requires.
Everything brings him to the session room.
Not as biography. As preparation.
Ordained as a rabbi and earned an MBA from the same institution, in the same years. One integrated vocation.
He learned that presence — genuine, full-contact presence — is not a soft skill. It's the precondition of every other form of leadership.
The rabbinate never ended. It changed rooms.
More than $200 million raised. Because of a sustained conviction that transformational giving happens when people feel genuinely known and cared for.
As President & CEO, he guided a community through the Tree of Life massacre, COVID, and the Marshall Fires. He held grief and governance simultaneously. He restructured the organization while completing a capital campaign.
He learned what it costs to lead in crisis. And what becomes possible for leaders who can.
Thirty years of field leadership taught him what worked. It couldn’t tell him why, or whether it would hold in a room he hadn’t stood in himself. That question became the Nonprofit Leadership Diagnostic Study (NLDS), and the findings became Amplifying Impact, the forthcoming book he co-authored with Joel Swanson and Curt Swindoll. The VED Framework — Vision, Execution, Diagnostic capacity — comes directly out of that research and now anchors the diagnostic work at the center of this practice.
He learned to hold both: the practitioner’s instinct and the scholar’s discipline to test it.
Founded in 2023. Leadership coaching and EOS Implementation for purpose-driven CEOs and founders who are trying to build organizations that match their values.
Everything he has done brings him to this work.
The Strear Group delivers Dynamic Strategic Planning — full EOS Implementation for founder-led businesses and mission-driven nonprofits. Engagements typically begin with a full-day session to build the one-page strategic plan and a clear structure of accountability, followed by quarterly sessions to set priorities, review the scorecard, and keep the leadership team’s weekly meeting rhythm sharp. Jay has run this process across more than 1,500 hours in the session room — as a self-implementing CEO first, then as a client, and now as the Implementer.
The work is coached, not just delivered: between sessions, the team gets direct feedback on what’s working and what’s drifting, so the system holds after the engagement ends.
Heart without discipline is good intention without traction. Discipline without heart is a system without a soul.
Every engagement holds both. That is not a philosophy. It is thirty years of evidence.
The leaders who do the best work here share one quality: they wake up asking how they're going to be better. Not just more effective — genuinely better as a leader and as a person.
If that's the pursuit you're on, reach out.
